I wrote this song for my mother as she was dying from Alzheimer’s, Christmas Eve, 2017. I just wanted to thank her for giving me the gift of life and let her know that all the good she had given me, I would pass on to others as part of a chain of women that goes on forever.
lyrics
How can I ever thank you for the gifts you bestowed
As you prepare for your journey, I want you to know
I’m grateful that you helped shape me to be just who I am
You’ll keep blessing others through my heart and my hands
I’ll take it from here. I’ll take it from here
You’ve given me the best of yourself for so many years
Thank you for bringing me this far; Your time is drawing near
You can pass the baton; I’ll take it from here
I hope I hear your voice from the other side
That you continue to guide me with your words so kind and wise
May your wings be strong and your heart be light
Befitting of the angel you were to me in this life
I’ll take it from here. I’ll take it from here
You’ve given me the best of yourself for so many years
Thank you for bringing me this far; Your time is drawing near
You can pass the baton; I’ll take it from here
Bless the endless cycles of grandmothers, mothers, daughters
The babes we make our entrance as, the women we become
And bless each of our journeys. May we share our strength with others
Standing on each other’s shoulders, moving forward as one
I’ll take it from here. I’ll take it from here
You’ve given me the best of yourself for so many years
Thank you for bringing me this far; Your time is drawing near
You can pass the baton
Go ahead and pass the baton
I’ll take it from here
I’ll take it from here
